Kazakhstan to launch more than 30 facilities using renewable energy sources by 2020

ASTANA. More than 30 facilities using renewable energy sources will be put into operation in Kazakhstan by 2020, First Deputy Prime Minister Bakhytzhan Sagintayev has said at today's meeting of the staff of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

"It is expected to put into operation more than 30 facilities with a total capacity of 1850 MW," he said.

According to him, hydro, wind, solar and biogas power plants with total capacity of 16.5 MW were commissioned in Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, Karaganda, Kostanay and North Kazakhstan regions starting from 2011, Kazinform refers to the web-site of the Prime Minister.

It is necessary to launch a part of projects before the international exhibition EXPO 2017, Deputy Prime Minister added.
