Addressing the briefing at the Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan held in Astana, Mussabayev said that the Europe's Vega carrier rocket with the first Kazakhstan's Earth remote sensing satellite on board was successfully launched on April 30 at 07:35 by Astana time from the Kourou space centre, French Guiana. It was built entirely by Airbus Defence and Space and is a very high-resolution (1 metre) satellite weighing 900 kg that will provide Kazakhstan with a complete range of civil applications, including monitoring of natural and agricultural resources, the provision of mapping data, security applications, and support for rescue operations in the event of natural disasters. The second satellite also built by Airbus Defence and Space will be launched for the Yasnyi launch base in the Orenburg oblast, Russia. KazEOSat 2 satellite, formerly known as MRES (Medium Resolution Earth Observation Satellite), will deliver wide swath multispectral imagery of the Kazakh territory and other parts of the Earth.
