Kazakhstan to increase transit cargo transport volume via Chinese port

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstan plans to increase its export and transit container transport through the port of Lianyungang in China to the volume of a 250,000 twenty-foot equivalent units by 2015 and subsequently to double this figure by 2020, the country's national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy said.

During his working visit to China, the head of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Askar Mamin discussed the process of implementation of the Kazakh-Chinese joint project 'Construction of a logistic terminal at the port of Lianyungang', the company said. "During the visit there was the signing of a memorandum and articles of association of a joint venture between Lianyungang Port LLC and the multimodal company KTZ Express JSC," the company said. The parties planned the opening of the main part of the Kazakh-Chinese terminal in the port of Lianyungang, implementation of complex of commercial and marketing activities on attracting and reorientation of the export and transit cargo flow from South-East Asian countries through the Chinese port, Kazinform refers to rend.az. During the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Kazakhstan in September, 2013, there was signed a cooperation agreement on the construction of the terminal.
