Kazakhstan to host around 20 major international sports events in 2026

In 2026, Kazakhstan will solidify its status as one of the key destinations in the international sports calendar, hosting around 20 major world and continental-level competitions, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

International tournaments will take place in Astana, Almaty, and Turkistan. The events will cover Olympic, Paralympic, and innovative sports.

Among the year's highlights are the Judo Grand Slam tournament in Astana, the ISSF World Cup Shotgun in Almaty, the Asian Paracanoe Championships in Turkistan, the Boccia World Cup in Astana, the Asian Karate Championships in Almaty, and the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final.

One of the largest international projects of 2026 will be the Games of the Future, to be held in Astana from July 29 to August 9. The international multi-sport tournament aims to develop phygital sports, which combine traditional athletic disciplines with digital technologies.

Throughout the year, the country will also host international track cycling competitions, including the Silk Way Series and Astana Open Series, the Gusman Kosanov Memorial in athletics, the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championships, the Open Cup of the President of Kazakhstan in table tennis, the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge Series in figure skating, and other prestigious events.

Additionally, Astana will host a stage of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, the Goalball World Youth Championships, and several international para-sports tournaments.

Hosting international sports events not only strengthens the country's sports authority but also promotes sports tourism, attracts investment, improves infrastructure, and raises Kazakhstan's profile on the global sports stage.

The year 2027 will also be significant for domestic sports. Next year, Kazakhstan is set to host seven world championships, two Asian championships, and the UEFA European Under-19 Futsal Championship.

As reported earlier by Qazinform News Agency, Almaty hosts an ITF J100 International tournament.
