Kazakhstan to develop 2036 Biotechnology Strategy

Healthcare Minister Akmaral Alnazarova, President of the Academy of Sciences Akhylbek Kurishbayev, academicians, heads of medical universities and scientific organizations, representatives of state bodies, scientists and experts attended the meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Kazakh Healthcare Ministry and the National Academy of Sciences in Almaty.

Minister Akmaral Alnazarova emphasized that biotechnology is not only a scientific task but also a crucial part of Kazakhstan’s technological development, highlighting the need to ensure domestic innovations reach practical use.

Academy President Akhylbek Kurishbayev noted that the strategy should enable Kazakhstan to both develop its own technologies and adapt the best global solutions to national conditions.

The strategy aims to strengthen Kazakhstan’s technological base, expand access to innovative solutions, and improve the quality of life for its people.

The Ministry of Health will refine the draft with expert input and prepare an Action Plan for implementation, laying the foundation for systemic biotechnology development through 2036.

The Minister said it is crucial to move from isolated research projects to a system where knowledge is applied in diagnostics, treatment, and production.

As stated there, the development of biotechnologies expands opportunities in medical science, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals.

The strategy is expected to strengthen Kazakhstan’s technological base, improve access to innovative solutions, and enhance the quality of life for citizens.

The Ministry of Health will refine the draft based on expert proposals and prepare an Action Plan for implementation.

Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev assigned the Government to carry out a comprehensive renovation of Kazakhstan’s healthcare infrastructure and modernize the sector’s material and technical base.
