Kazakhstan to build TPP in Kokshetau in 3Q of year

Preliminary work for construction of a thermal power plant (TPP), including the perimeter fencing, the arrangement of access roads, and the engineering surveys, is scheduled to commence in Kokshetau in the third quarter of the year, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Marat Akhmetzhanov, the akim of the Akmola region and representatives of Samruk-Energy JSC met to discuss the TPP implementation in the regional center.

“As part of the execution of the order of the Head of State, particular attention is paid to the construction of the TPP. It is imperative that every effort is made to implement the project within the promised timeframe,” Akhmetzhanov stated.

Samruk Energy Chairman, Kairat Maksutov, provided further plans on the project implementation as well as informed about the work commencement. According to him, the feasibility study on the Kokshetau TPP has been initiated.

A contract for the development of design and estimate documentation with Russia’s INTER RAO Export is currently awaiting approval. The issue of land allocation and collection of initial data is still in progress. Preparatory works, including the perimeter fencing, arrangement of access roads, and engineering surveys, are scheduled to start in the third quarter of this year.

Recall that the energy ministries of Kazakhstan and Russia signed an agreement on the construction of TPPs in Kokshetau, Semey, and Oskemen cities. According to Kairat Maksutov, the capacity of the thermal power plant in Kokshetau will be 240MW, in Semey – 360MW and in Ust-Kamenogorsk – 360MW.

The Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almassadam Satkaliyev, has disclosed the locations of the facilities to be constructed in Kazakhstan by Russia. Additionally, he has provided information regarding the planned construction of TPPs in the country.

The preliminary cost of each TPP is as following: Kokshetau TPP – 347 billion tenge, Semey TPP – 420 billion tenge, and Ust-Kamenogorsk TPP – 490 billion tenge.
