Kazakhstan Temir Zholy strives to raise mobility of population
ASTANA. February 14. KAZINFORM 1, 871, 505 people traveled by train in Kazakhstan over the period of January 1 - February 7, 2012, that is by 11.9% more as compared to 2011. The rail transport performance made 1,438,036 in thousand passenger-kilometers from the beginning of the year. Its growth made 10.2 % against the same period of 2011, the press service of the National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC informs.
This year Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has started the realization of the high speed passenger traffic program. The Tulpar-Talgo factory in Astana manufactures new passenger coaches. The first train of 19 high speed cars will connect Almaty and Petropavlovsk. The factory will put annually 150 new cars into operation.
"It is a passenger traffic breakthrough. The increase in the mobility of population is a direct factor which influences the economic growth", Kazakhstan Temir Zholy president Askar Mumin told at the last operational meeting.
Above 16.5 million passengers were carried by rail in 2011, which is 10% more than in 2010.
