Kazakhstan takes part in Conference of the Parties to UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime
ASTANA. October 19. KAZINFORM The fifth session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN (Palermo) Convention against Transnational Organized Crime has started work in Vienna; Kazinform refers to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's press service.
Kazakhstan's delegation is headed by Yerzhan Kazykhanov, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna. Mr. Kazykhanov, who was elected Vice President of the Conference, confirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to its obligations under the Convention and the active position of our country to develop international cooperation in this field.
Besides, speaking at the session he drew attention of the participants to the Kazakhstan's measures on stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The Kazakh diplomat praised the work of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and called on for expansion of cooperation with the OSCE.
The session will finish on October 22 with new proposals on enhancing the capacity of the participating states to combat transnational organized crime, promoting implementation of the Convention and holding review of its implementation.
The United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, adopted in 2000, is the main international instrument in the fight against transnational organized crime.
