Kazakhstan takes part in 1st Russian Int'l Penitentiary Forum

ASTANA. December 9. KAZINFORM - Last week Major General Baurzhan Berdalin, the Chairman of the Committee of the Penal system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan (CPS MIA), participated in the first Russian international Penal Forum held in the city of Ryazan at the Academy of the Federal Penitentiary Service, the press service of the CPS MIA reports.

According to Berdalin the meeting which put together heads of penal services, law enforcement agencies of the CIS countries, several European countries as well as deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Public Chamber, foreign NGOs and leading academics in the field of criminal law, criminal procedure and criminal law executive legislation has been held for the first time ever.

The forum discussed the important issues in the field of punishment execution, law, human rights and law enforcement practice.

The event's participants suggested to establish the Council of Heads of the CIS penal services offering an important function of the state as the execution of criminal penalties. "Since there are questions in the field of extradition, fight against transnational organized crime, the proposal will be forwarded to the relevant structures of the countries participating in the conference", said the head of Kazakhstan penitentiary system.
