Kazakhstan strengthens southern borders control due to cholera epidemic in Afghanistan

ASTANA. August 21. KAZINFORM — Kazakh Ministry for Health is deeply concerned about cholera epidemic situation in Afghanistan where 1,709 people living in Badakhshan province were cholera infected, as announced by Zhandarbek Bekshin, Chairman of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision of the Ministry for Health, at a press conference devoted to the topic themed "Epidemiological situation in the country".

In order to prevent the infection spreading over Kazakhstan it is necessary to enhance monitoring of persons coming from countries near and far abroad ", said Bekshin.

"The epidemiological situation in the country is normal. However, according to the official data of World Health Organization, 19 countries have registered more than 3.3 million cases of cholera, 74 of which have been fatal", concluded Zhandarbek Bekshin.
