Kazakhstan sent experts to Iran to investigate IL-62M crash at Mashhad airport

ASTANA.  July 27. KAZINFORM According to information of the representatives of Iran's aviation authorities, crash of IL-62M plane belonging to Deta Air Kazakhstan Company at Mashhad airport was caused by the plane's high speed while landing, Kazinform cites the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Transport and Communications.

As earlier reported, the accident occurred on July 24, 2009 at 18.00 (21.00 by Astana time) at the airport of Iranian city Mashhad. The landing gear of IL-62M which arrived from Tehran burst into fire. As a result, it skidded off the runway and smashed into the airport's fence. The front part of the fuselage was destroyed.

There were 160 passengers and crew members on board. 17 people died and 30 got injures during the air crash. All crew members of the plane consisting of 5 Kazakhstani citizens are among the dead.

The aircraft belongs to Deta Air Kazakhstani Company. Since November 2008 it has been operated by Aria Air Iranian Company. The plane was produced in 1989.

Kazakh Ministry's Civil Aviation Committee has sent its experts to Mashhad to join a special commission for investigating the accident.
