Kazakhstan sends 1st batch of humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan
Kazakhstan sent 1,000 tons of diesel fuel in 17 tank cars as the first batch of humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan affected by the thermal power plant accident in Bishkek, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
Attending the handover ceremony were Kazakh ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Rapil Zhoshybayev and Kyrgyz energy minister Taalaibek Ibrayev.
As part of its humanitarian assistance, Kazakhstan is to provide 2,000 tons of diesel fuel in the wake of the thermal power plant accident in Kyrgyzstan upon the instruction of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and with the support of the Kazakhstan International Development Agency.
The diesel fuel Kazakhstan is to send is set to meet the energy needs of Kyrgyzstan in spheres such as transport, agriculture and medicine.
Such humanitarian aid is part of Kazakhstan’s efforts to promote partnership with its neighboring countries and further contribute to the favorable environment for the region’s development.
In his speech, Kazakh ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Zhoshybayev noted that the humanitarian assistance was provided based on good-neighborliness and brotherly relations between the two nations.
The first batch of diesel fuel of 1,000 tons arrived in the Shopokovo station, Chu region. The second batch of 1,000 tons will be delivered to the Balykchi station in Issyk-Kul region, upon the request of the Kyrgyz side… Alongside other neighboring countries, Kazakhstan immediately responded to the difficult situation caused by the man-made accident at the Bishkek thermal power plant as well as increased its electricity supplies to Kyrgyzstan, said the Kazakh ambassador.
For his part, Kyrgyz energy minister Ibrayev expressed gratitude to the Kazakhstani people and President Tokayev as well as the head of the Kazakh energy ministry for the assistance.
Notably, an explosion occurred at the thermal power plant in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek at night on February 2, leading to equipment failure.
