Kazakhstan sees decline in grave offenses: Internal Affairs Minister

ASTANA. June 24. KAZINFORM Nearly 139 thousand crimes (28% more than last year) have been registered in Kazakhstan in 2013.

Minister of Internal Affairs Kalmukhanbet Kassymov has told a weekly briefing of the Central Communications Services at KazMediaCenter in Astana today.

Minister Kassymov explained it is due to more accurate and complete record-keeping of crimes. As a matter of fact, in his words, some 80 thousand crimes have been brought to light over six months of 2013. Law enforcement officers are subject to high penalties for underreporting.

According to the Minister, the number of murders and other grave offenses has declined recently.
