Kazakhstan's security initiatives discussed in USA

ASTANA. June 18. KAZINFORM Conference titled "Enhancing Asia's Security Dialogue: Role of the CICA" was held in the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, Kazinform refers to the Kazakh Embassy in the USA.

Representatives of the U.S. Congress, Department of State, Ministry of Defense, American mass media, business and academic communities took part in the Conference.

Kazakh Ambassador Yerlan Idrisov and Turkish Ambassador Namik Tan addressed the participants.

The Diplomats briefed the audience on peculiarities of evolution of the CICA since the President N.Nazarbayev announced the initiative on its convocation at the 47 session of the UN General Assembly in October, 1992.

In 2010 Turkey will take over the presidency in this Asian security organization for the first time. In this regard, N.Tan noted that the efforts of the Kazakhstan's CICA chairmanship provided a firm basis for further strengthening of cooperation and confidence in Asia and become an effective complement to the global efforts on provision of peace and stability, development and prosperity.

Y.Idrisov briefed the participants of the event on the main provisions of the speech of Kazakh President at the III CICA Summit in Istanbul. The Kazakh Diplomat announced the initiative of the Head of the State on establishment of single OSCE-CICA Forum as well. "Interaction of these two Organizations should open a way to establishment of Continental Security Platform", the Kazakh Ambassador said. In this regard, he called the USA to activate its participation in Asian processes and rely on the Organization as on important platform for strengthening of mutual understanding between the USA and Asian countries.

Leading American experts participated in the Conference highly appraised the work held within the CICA.
