Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship debated in Washington

ANA.  September 14. KAZINFORM  Kazakh delegation headed by Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the OSCE Kairat Abdrakhmanov has visited the USA. Among the members of the delegation are Vice Chairman of the Committee for International Information of the Kazakh Foreign Office Alma Konurbayeva, Deputy Director of the OSCE Department Talgat Unaibayev, First Secretary of the Kazakhstan Embassy in Poland Timur Sultangozhin, the press service of the Kazakhstan Embassy in the USA informs.

Constructive exchange of opinions with the representatives of the US political establishment, expert and human rights communities of Washington on Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship took place. The members of the delegation met with Chairman and co-Chairman of the US Helsinki Commission Ben Cardin and Congressman Elsie Hastings, Special Aide to the US President/ Senior Director of the Council of National Security of the USA for Eurasia and Russia Michael McFall, Assistant Secretary of State for Southern and Central Asia Robert  Blake, and acting Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor K. Stuart, ex-Ambassador of the USA to the OSCE Julie Finley and others.

Participation of the delegation in the seminars "Chairmanship in the OSCE" organized by the Helsinki Commission together with the US Department of State became a key event during the visit.  American colleagues  reported on all important directions of work of the OSCE three dimensions (frozen conflicts, Afghanistan, Georgia, the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, the Corfu process, Asian and Mediterranean partnership, ODIHR, OSCE PA and others), the evolution of development of the Organization and the US priorities in it.

"The OSCE Chairman must be not only an "honest broker" but also he must possess skills and abilities to promote the dialogue and consensus", Senator B. Cardin said. He pointed out friendly relations between Kazakhstan and the USA and America's reckon on serious steps from the Kazakh side in 2010.  

A number of meetings with the US human rights communities was held within the Kazakh delegation's visit. The representatives of the US non-governmental organizations forwarded several constructive propositions regarding Kazakhstan's activity during the OSCE chairmanship in humanitarian dimension.

A conference on "Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE" was held September 10 within the visit.

The format of the meetings held, openness of the Kazakhstan delegation for dialogue, constructiveness in discussion of the topical issues of the agenda of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE were positively perceived by Washington.
