Kazakhstan's OIC chairmanship priorities discussed in Vienna

VIENNA. June 1. KAZINFORM /Timur Bekturganov/ A "roundtable meeting" devoted to discussion of the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Organization of the Islamic Conference was held on May 31 in Austria's Hofburg Palace.

Sultan Akimbekov, the Director of the Institute of World Economy and Politics of the First Kazakhstan President's Foundation and Murat Laumulin, the expert of the Kazakhstan Institute of Strategic Researches, told about the key aspects of the OIC activity and the urgent geopolitical challenges to the region's stability.

The meeting participants were informed of preparation for the 38th session of the OIC Foreign Ministers Council to be held in Astana in June 2011. Besides, issues concerning the interaction of the international structures in countering the modern challenges and threats, promotion of inter-faith tolerance and the dialogue among the civilizations were discussed.

The event was attended by the representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Austria and expert communities of Europe, international organizations, NGOs and mass media. The organizers of the roundtable meeting are the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Austria, permanent representation office of Kazakhstan to the international organizations in Vienna and the Institute of Peace, an authoritative international non-governmental organization.
