Kazakhstan?s joining Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative discussed in Astana

ASTANA. June 1. KAZINFORM /Kurmat Samarkhan/ A seminar on validation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) for interested sides is taking place in Astana today. The organizer of the event is Public Fund?North Kazakhstan Legal Media Center? .
Kazakhstan has to pass through validation ? the procedure of valuation of the progress, achieved in realization of the EITI in 2009.
According to Kazakh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Asset Magauov, the Head of the State declared association to the EITI in 2005. The corresponding memo, 66 oil-and-gas companies and 44 enterprises of ore-mining sector joined to, was signed in October, 2005.
?Necessary funds for the process were allocated with the support of the Kazakh Prime Minister despite the sequestering of the budget. Several working groups were established within the National Stakeholder Council?, the Vice Minister said.
British Ambassador to Kazakhstan Paul Brummell, Deputies of the Kazakh Parliament Aigul Solovyeva and Sarsenbai Yensegenov, representatives of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan, the OSCE Center in Astana and others take part in the seminar.
