Kazakhstan's grain yield to rise sharply in 2011

ASTANA. September 24. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan's total grain yield in 2011 is projected to rise sharply over 2010, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture Thursday.

Accoridng to Xinhua, the Central Asian country is estimated to harvest 25 million tons of grain in bunker weight in 2011, said Yevgeny Aman, the executive secretary of the ministry, at a press conference here.

"If the yield level remains at 15.8 tons per hectare, the total harvest may come to 25 million tons," Aman said.

Kazakhstan's 2010 grain production was at 12.2 million tons in net weight and 20.8 million tons in 2009.

The Ministry of Agriculture estimated the country's grain export potential in 2011 at over 10 million tons.
