Kazakhstan's democratic model is more effective than in other post-Soviet states - EUCAM Coordinator N. Hasanova

BRUSSELS. April 23. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Kazakhstan's model of democracy is more effective than in other post-Soviet countries. Coordinator of the EU-Central Asia Monitoring Program (EUCAM) Nafisa Hasanova said it in an interview to a Kazinform correspondent.

In her opinion, democratization in the post-Soviet space is a sensitive issue. However, it is unreasonable to expect democratic changes in 20 years. "It is quite long process and it must go on inside the countries. It is simply impossible to impose democracy by force until the nation is ready to accept it. For this we need political activeness, political awareness and a desire to partake in political processes. All of these take much time", N. Hasanova noted.

According to the European expert, Kazakhstan's strategy is very interesting here. "Your country announced economic development as a priority objective, because it promotes formation of the middle class. Middle class is the category of people who take every effort to protect their property and want to change something", she said.

"Namely this model implemented in Kazakhstan demonstrates its high effectiveness today", N. Hasanova added.
