The Commission has to prepare final documents for starting demarcation work scheduled for May 23 on the border between Atyrau oblast of Kazakhstan and Astrakhan oblast of the Russian Federation. First boundary sign will be erected here. According to Head of the Russian delegation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vladimir Volkov, ?the event will be of political and historical importance. For the first time in the two countries? history we will demarcate the border. Boundary signs, attributes of independence, like the Emblem, Flag and Anthem, have been already adjusted?. As Kazakhstan Ambassador Vyacheslav Gizzatov noted, ?The Russian Federation and Kazakhstan have no controversial issues, all of them were solved during the boundary delimitation in 2005. Therefore the demarcation is being carried out in the spirit of mutual understanding. The total length of the border between our countries is 7 591 km. Atyrau and Astrakhan oblasts share common border of 239.6 km?.
