Kazakhstan readies to mark 20th anniversary of its accession to the UN
W YORK. September 22. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ ЭKazakhstan is getting ready to mark the 20th anniversary of its accession to the United Nations Organization,Э President Nursultan Nazarbayev told a briefing held today at the UN headquarters.
"The event when twenty years ago Kazakhstan joined the UN became a milestone in the history of my nation. This event is of historic meaning and we are getting ready to mark it properly," the President noted.
"All these years Kazakhstan has been faithfully complying with the letter and spirit of the United Nations Charter, actively collaborating and rendering its assistance in all peacekeeping and integration processes. Kazakhstan initiated convocation of the Congress of the Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions.
From the UN rostrum I put forward for the first time an initiative to establish CICA that groups today 29 countries, foundation of the SCO, within CIS and EurAsEC. These are Kazakhstan's initiatives and I believe we have worked for the sake of peace and trust both in the region and the world," the President stated.
Besides, the Kazakh Leader highlighted the fact that Kazakhstan shut down the largest nuclear test site having voluntarily abandoned the world's fourth nuclear arsenal and contributing thus to the nuclear disarmament process.
