Kazakhstan raises the profile of inclusive education

ASTANA. May 28. KAZINFORM The proportion of schools with inclusive education in Kazakhstan will rise.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Education Mr Bakytzhan Zhumagulov announced the news at the Government's meeting on Tuesday. "Kazakhstan is the only CIS member country to provide by statute the development of inclusive education," he reminded.
"There are 1 462 schools and 166 kindergartens with inclusive education in Kazakhstan at the moment. These numbers will go up to 70% by 2020," Minister Zhumagulov noted.
In his words, these educational facilities will have so-called 'barrier-free zones' for children with disabilities. As expected, the zones are to be equipped with lifting devices, wheelchair ramps, and special furniture.
