Kazakhstan population reaches 17 million
ASTANA. August 14. KAZINFORM The population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, now at 17.28 million, has increased for 0.7% over the last six months of 2013.
It was announced by Alikhan Smailov, the Chairman of the Kazakh Statistics Agency, at a Wednesday briefing.
"As of July 1, 2013, Kazakhstan's population hit 17.28 million people, including 9.350 million of urban population (54.9%) and 7.677 million of rural population (45.1%). Over the January-June period the population has grown for 0.7%, or 118 800 people. In comparison with the analogous period of 2012, the population grew to 234 700 people or 1.4%," Mr. Smailov said.
In his words, 188 thousand births have been registered since the beginning of the current year, 0.6% more than last year.
70 400 people died across the country within the same period of time.
