Kazakhstan plans to increase funding for Ural-Caspian basin protective measures

KAZINFORM To solve the problems of the Ural River it is necessary to increase the amount of funding for all environmental protection measures in the Ural-Caspian basin, Vice Minister of Environmental Protection, Co-Chair of Kazakh-Russian commission on joint use and protection of transboundary waters Yerlan Nyssanbayev said during a round table "Actual problems of transboundary basin of the Ural River and possible solutions" on Wednesday, Kazinform refers to the Kazakh PM's website.

"As for Kazakhstan's actions in the matter of the Ural River, they should be focused on a number of points. We need to increase funding for all environmental protection measures in the Ural-Caspian basin. In parallel, it is necessary to take measures to eliminate the sources of pollution of the river, and also to ensure shore protection," he said.

According to him, such an approach will allow to clean up and restore all spawning grounds, particularly sturgeon spawning grounds, to restore the catchment area of the river through the implementation of measures aimed at increasing forest area and the creation of protected areas.
