Kazakhstan military involvement in UN missions to boost its international image - Defense Minister A. Jaksybekov
ASTANA . December 20. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstan's military participation in UN missions will help boost its international image, the Defense Minister, Adilbek Jaksybekov has said at today's joint session of the parliament.
"Participation in these missions will not affect our relations with these countries, at the same time it will make a great contribution to the development of Kazakhstan's international prestige, especially now in the light of our bid for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018," - A. Jaksybekov said.
He reminded that a country's participation in peacekeeping operations is always taken into consideration when granting it the sought membership. "Certainly, we cannot expect absolute security in these matters but the proposed mission is the most appropriate one in this regard ", - A. Jaksybekov assured .
According to the defense minister, since 1992, participation of the United Nations in peacekeeping missions has downed the number of international conflicts by 40%.
