The Chinese expert stressed that in terms of economic growth and social stability Kazakhstan occupies a leading position among the countries of Central Asia. CICIR - China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (until 2003 - China Institute of Contemporary International Relations) is considered one of the oldest "think tanks" of China in the field of international relations. It takes fifth place in the ranking of the top 25 think tanks of Asia. CICIR has a staff of approximately 400, including 150 senior research fellows. It consists of 11 departments with different regional and functional concentrations, as well as two research divisions focusing on the Korean Peninsula and Central Asia, and eight research centers.
