Kazakhstan faces the problem of water scarcity - President Nazarbayev
ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev has received chairman of the Committee for Water Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture Islam Abishev today, Kazinform has learnt from the Akorda's press service.
During the meeting, Mr. Abishev briefed President Nazarbayev on key aspects of agriculture development and work on effective use and protection of Kazakhstan's water resources. The President stressed the relevance of water supply issue in Kazakhstan. "There is a problem of water scarcity in Kazakhstan. It is crucial to determine the need to construct new dams, conduct research in ground water use and flooding of pastures," Nursultan Nazarbayev said. The Head of State also underscored that Kazakhstan goes to great lengths to develop water management and solve the problem of the Aral Sea. The sides paid utmost attention to the issues of unused irrigated lands and effective cooperation with neighboring countries on use of trans-border rivers. President Nazarbayev gave a number of specific instructions following results of the meeting.
