Kazakhstan exports 1.2mln tons of oil to China in 2023

Kazakhstan exported 1.2 million tons of oil to China in 2023, Kazakh energy minister Almassadam Satkaliyev said, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

According to the minister, the country produced 90 million tons of oil last year, 6.9% higher than in a previous year.

Construction of the 5th and 6th compressors set to be completed in 2025 and 2028, respectively, has begun at the Karachaganak oilfield to keep the production level at 10-11 million tons per year, he said.

As the energy ministry said, the country’s oil export increased to 70.5 million tons.

The project to eliminate bottlenecks in the Kazakhstani section of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, enabling to increase its throughput to 72.5 million tons per year was completed. One million ton of Kazakhstani oil was transported to the German oil refinery Schwedt via the system of Transneft through the Druzhba oil pipeline. Kazakhstani oil in the amount of one million tons was transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan system, thus enabling to increase the export of oil via the Aktau port en route Makhachkala and Baku to 3.4 million tons or 52% compared to 2022, Satkaliyev said.

The minister went on to add that last year the country exported 1.2 million tons of oil to China and 0.065 million tons to Uzbekistan via railway. In addition, 10 million and 0.15 million tons of Russian oil were transited through the territory of Kazakhstan.

An agreement was reached to transport 1.2 million of oil via the Druzhba system and 1.5 million tons of oil en route Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan in 2024, said the Kazakh energy minister.
