Kazakhstan evaluates the impact from Baikonur accident on adjacent territories

ASTANA. July 3. KAZINFORM As reported earlier, the Proton-M carrier rocket's accident at Baikonur occurred due to the failure of the first stage engine Tuesday morning in Kazakhstan, Kazinform has learnt from the press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Samples of air, soil and water have been taken to assess the impact from the Baikonur accident on adjacent territories and on Zhosaly settlement, in particular.

The republican state enterprise "Kazhydromet" has surveyed the atmospheric air on the territory of Kyzylorda city, Toretam and Akai settlements and according to its report the concentration of nitrogen oxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and carbon oxide falls within acceptable limits.

The special commission has not detected any fluctuations in permissible levels of pollutant agents in the atmospheric air in Zhosaly settlement.

Specialists of the republican state enterprise "Garysh-Ecology" together with reps of the Department of Ecology of Kyzylorda region have not found any traces of toxic heptyl fuel in the region.

The Environmental Ministry of Kazakhstan will continue to monitor the situations and evaluate the probability of any impact on the adjacent territory of the cosmodrome.
