Kazakhstan-EU coop reached new level

BRUSSELS. January 28. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Kazakh Secretary of State - Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev met with High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton Wednesday in the European Commission's headquarters in Brussels.

The interlocutors discussed the results of 2010 noting that the cooperation between Kazakhstan and EU reached a brand new level due to successful presidency of our country in the OSCE and results of the Astana Summit of the Organization.

K.Saudabayev has noted that trade turnover between the European Union and Kazakhstan exceeds the common turnover of the rest four Central Asian countries and three Caucasian countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.

The diplomats also confirmed readiness to continue working within the OSCE. Due to the fact that Kazakhstan remains a member of the OSCE Troika the Kazakh side expects continuation of close interaction with the EU which allows implementing the tasks set in the Astana declaration.

Besides, the parties discussed the issues of signing of a new agreement on advanced partnership between Kazakhstan and EU as well as further excluding of the Kazakh airline companies form the EU black list.

The Kazakh State Secretary and the EU Higher Representative addressed the issues of regional security as well. Speaking of the social and economic rehabilitation of Afghanistan the European diplomat expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for its support of the world community's efforts on rehabilitation of this Islamic republic. The sides also exchanged views on the situation in Kyrgyzstan. K.Saudabayev confirmed intention of our country to continue assistance to the neighboring country.

Besides, the Heads of the Foreign Ministries addressed other issues of the international agenda, including the Iranian nuclear problem. The Kazakh State Secretary also informed the EU Representative about the results of negotiations held in Washington.
