Kazakhstan Embassy announces fellowship for travel abroad
WASHINGTON. April 19. KAZINFORM This year, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in partnership with Kazakhstan's Airline Company "Air Astana", Kazakh Travel Agency Sayat (www.sayat-travel.kz/) and US-based Russian American Travel Agencies Association (RATA, www.russiantravelusa.com/) hereby initiates a fellowship that offers two eligible students from accredited universities in the U.S. a week-long free trip to explore the three major cities of Kazakhstan during the period of August 6-12 2012.
The fellows will have an opportunity to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan to share their experiences, and ask questions. The fellowship aims to make Americans more familiar with Kazakhstan, in particular in such areas as business opportunities and science and technology development. All expenses will be paid for with the exception of food costs and other incidentals, the press service of the Kazakh Embassy to the US said.
APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- U.S.Citizenship
- Both undergraduate and graduate students of an accredited university in the United States with a G.P.A of 3.3 or higher (selected candidates will be asked to provide unofficial transcripts upon selection)
- Proficiency with online social networking tools like Facebook, Twitter and Wordpress
- Prior basic knowledge of Kazakhstan is required
- Knowledge of Kazakh or Russian language is preferred but not required
- A major in business, science and technologies is preferred but not required
WORK OF SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENT
The Kazakhstan Embassy Fellows are required to submit 500-word abstract on the topic, "Discovering new Kazakhstan: bringing US innovations to Kazakhstan to develop Kazakhstan-US Science and Technology Partnership" to be considered and selected for the fellowship. The abstract must be submitted along with at least 3 sources. During the week-long trip to Kazakhstan, two selected fellows will be working on developing the abstract into 2500-word research piece. Within ten days after the trip, fellows will be required to submit their completed works.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
- Quality of proposed project (should constitute substantial, feasible, and innovative contribution to the topic)
- Strong research skills
- Evidence of knowledge and commitment to technological and scientific innovations
All materials must be submitted to Washington@kazakhembus.com by midnight of June 10, 2012. Only complete and timely applications will be reviewed by the selection committee.
