Kazakhstan develops model of artificial lung for children

ASTANA. September 10. KAZINFORM The Center for Life Science of the Nazarbayev University jointly the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center works on creation of a model of an artificial lung for children, member of the Board of Directors of "National Medical Holding" JSC Almaz Sharman said in the interview for Pm.kz site.

"Presently, jointly with the University of Pittsburgh and the National Cardiac Surgery Center the Center for Life Science conducts research work on creation of the first model of an artificial lung device for children which will used in practice," A. Sharman said.

Besides, he noted that the active work was held in order to reduce the existing model of the artificial lung and then it will be used in real practice.

The deputy of the chairman of the Executive Council of the Nazarbayev University also said that along with development of organs the Center planned to develop pharmacogenomics.

"The Center for Life Science will conduct researches in the sphere pharmacogenomics in regard of the drugs which are very expensive therefore before using them it necessary to define genetic sensitivity of a person to a medicine," the professor emphasized.

Besides, it is planned to hold genome-wide analysis for defining genetic predisposition of a patient to any of heart diseases.

In conclusion he added it was planned to the School of Medicine on the basis of the Nazarbayev University in 2015. It will work in the sphere of preparation of specialists who can not only practice medicine but also teach it.

"We hope that the School of Medicine, Center for Life Science and all the national clinics of the National Medical Holding will form an integrated system of healthcare. This tendency meets all international standards as long as doctors who can treat patients and teach medicine will become leaders and lead healthcare to a new level," A. Sharman said.
