China’s Urumqi hosted the 15th meeting of the Subcommittee on Transport Cooperation, as part of which Kazakhstan’s Transport Vice Minister Maksat Kaliyakparov and China's Deputy Minister of Transport, Li Yang held bilateral talks.

During the meeting, the sides agreed to further develop and boost traffic volume along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

The Chinese side is keen on raising the volume of goods transported by road along TITR via Kazakhstan to Europe. The countries introduced electronic permits for international road haulage last year, doubling shipment volumes, reads the Ministry’s statement.

The sides also expressed mutual interest in boosting road transport capacity by increasing passenger traffic and opening passenger routes as well as expanding the geography of flights and commencing additional corridors in the civil aviation field.

For instance, up to 124 flights are to run between the countries during the spring-summer navigation. The sides also agreed on the possibility of transporting air cargo without any item-related or frequency restrictions.
