BRUSSELS. June 1. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Kazakhstan attaches great importance to regional security issues, which leads to our close ties with NATO that tries to improve the situation in Central Asia. Rashit Akhmetov, the Kazakh Senate deputy made such a statement in an interview with Kazakhstan's journalists.
Akhmetov is staying in Brussels with a group of parliamentarians on a working visit at the invitation of the International Secretariat of NATO.
According to him, Kazakhstan actively cooperates with NATO on all spectra and programs of mutual interest, including in the framework of the Individual Partnership Action Plan, emergency response, scientific cooperation and inter-parliamentary cooperation. At the same time Kazakhstan is the only country in Central Asia, which has an observer status in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
"Together with my colleagues we actively participate in all sessions and meetings that take place within the Assembly. Representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance appreciate Kazakhstan's contribution to the settlement and improvement of the situation in Afghanistan, including our humanitarian assistance," the Senator emphasized.
