Kazakhstan and Malaysia to resume trade and economic dialogue

ASTANA. November 6. KAZINFORM  Astana hosts the second meeting of the Kazakh-Malaysian trade and economic committee, our correspondent reports.

"We had quite a long break, a new impetus to cooperation has been given by the visit of Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev to Malaysia, " Vice Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan Timur Zhaksylykov said.

"A large delegation, including businessmen came from Malaysia to discuss issues concerning increasing of mutual investments and trade between our two countries," the Vice Minister added.

According to him, the dialogue revealed that the Malaysian side is interested in oil and gas, iron and steel sector, agricultural sector, chemicals and petrochemicals.  A number of interesting projects in the manufacturing sector is under discussion.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, the commodity turnover between Kazakhstan and Malaysia in 2011 amounted to USD 97.1 million, which is 25.1% more than in the same period of 2010. The exports of Kazakhstan to Malaysia amounted to USD 1.8 million, which is 3.5 times more than in 2010. Imports from Malaysia last year amounted to USD 95.3 million.
