Kazakhstan and Japan, suffered from nuclear weapons, grasp the importance of nonproliferation regime
ASTANA. KAZINFORM Speaker of the Kazakh Majilis Nurlan Nigmatullin and Japan's Ambassador to Kazakhstan Masayoshi Kamohara met in Astana to debate the issues concerning Kazakh-Japanese relations.
The sides noted dynamic and constructive cooperation between the two nations based on strategic partnership and mutual understanding, touched upon international security, nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament. The Kazakh Speaker stressed the importance and urgent character of the nuclear security initiatives of President Nursultan Nazarbayev. "Our countries, that suffered the most from nuclear weapons, grasp the importance, first of all, of the nuclear weapons nonproliferation and peaceful use of atom. Therefore, the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons is the cornerstone of the international security," he added. In his turn, Japan's Ambassador noted that Japan is ready for close cooperation with Kazakhstan, especially, in the field of peaceful use of atom. The parties also briefed on trade and economic cooperation, strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties.
