Kazakhstan and Japan FMs discuss the possibility of direct air links

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - July 16, 2014 in Bishkek, in the framework of the V Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue countries, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov met with the Foreign Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida.

The round table discussed topical issues of cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats, the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported. The two sides talked over the prospects for continued high-level dialogue, trade, economic and investment cooperation and facilitation of mutual trips of the citizens of two states. Mr. Idrissov and Mr.Kishida noted the importance of Toyota Fortuner production in the city of Kostanay. The parties noted favorable prospects for further enhancement of collaboration in the field of nuclear energy and the development of rare-earth metals. The two heads of the foreign affairs agencies discussed the possibility of opening direct air links between Kazakhstan and Japan. Speaking about the prospects for economic cooperation, F. Kishida expressed Japan's support for reform policy of Kazakhstan aimed at achieving the objectives of "Kazakhstan-2050" Strategy. Mr. Idrissov officially invited Japan to participate in the international exhibition "Expo-2017" which will be held in Astana, and expressed the hope that Japanese companies, known for their know-how and technologies in the field of new energy, will take active part in the event. The two sides agreed to increase cooperation in such organizations as the UN and UNESCO. There was considered cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
