Kazakhstan and Canada discussed environmental issues
ASTANA. May 13. KAZINFORM Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Canada Mr. Konstantin Zhigalov met with Minister of the Environment of Canada The Honourable Peter Kent in Ottawa.
The parties had substantial discussions on further development of cooperation on protection of environment. Ambassador Zhigalov informed Minister Kent about several Kazakhstan's initiatives in this area, including the Green Bridge Initiative and the EXPO-2017, inviting the Canadian side to participate in joint implementation of these projects.
During the meeting, the parties noted the successful visit of the delegation of the Forestry Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan to the Canadian Province of Alberta in October 2012 in order to learn about the Canadian experience in the sphere of sustainable forestry, forest fire management, inventory procedures, preservation and restoration of forests and also management of urban green areas.
The parties also welcomed successful cooperation between Kazakhstan and Canadian companies on the environmental projects on the example of SNC-Lavalin, which implemented a project to modernize the sulfuric plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk in contract with the Kazzinc JSC during 2007-2011, reducing the emissions into atmosphere according to the national legislation of our country.
Ambassador Zhigalov confirmed Kazakhstan's interest in learning the experience of Canada in the area of environment protection related to the oil and gas sector, including shale oil and gas and others.
