Kazakhstan and Afghanistan to set up water resources management center in Kabul.
The center will operate as an inter-university research platform, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Kazakh government’s press service.
A corresponding agreement of intention to cooperate in water resources management and irrigation, development of sustainable agriculture amid climate change was signed by the Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation, the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, and Kabul University. The document was signed during the visit of the Kazakh delegation to Afghanistan, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin.
The center is planned to be established at Kabul University. It will become the first Kazakh-Afghan educational and research institution specializing in water resources, irrigation, and sustainable agriculture. The new platform will facilitate the training of specialists, exchange of knowledge, joint research, and the implementation of modern solutions in the water and agricultural sector. Educational programs and scientific support will be provided by Kazakh scholars and experts.
Speaking at the Kazakh-Afghan business forum, Serik Zhumangarin emphasized that Kazakhstan pays special attention to water diplomacy, the rational use of water resources, and strengthening regional cooperation in this area.
The Center is expected to develop as an inter-university research platform, integrating such areas as water security, sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation, environmental monitoring, and food security. This integrated approach will enable the development of practical solutions for the sustainable development of the region.
Kabul University is the oldest and largest public higher education institution in Afghanistan, founded in 1932. The university has 22 faculties and offers a broad academic foundation for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Earlier, Qazinform reported that Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin met with Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
