Kazakh writer Azilkhan Nurshaikhov passed away at 89

ASTANA. February 14. KAZINFORM Kazakh writer, veteran of the Great Patriotic War and labor, laureate of literary awards of Abay and Alexander Fadeyev, laureate of the State Prize Azilkhan Nurshaikhov passed away at the age of 89 years.

Azilkhan Nurshaikhov was born on December 15, 1922 in Zharmin municipality of Semipalatinsk region. From the school years Azilkhan dreamed of becoming a poet. The municipal and regional newspapers published his poetry at the end of 1930s.

He wrote more than 40 books, most of them are devoted to the war.

Azilkhan Nurshaikhov is an honorary professor of the Semey State Pedagogical Institute as well as an Honorary resident of Semey city.
