Kazakh uranium production up 8 percent in Jan.-Sept.
ASTANA. November 4. KAZINFORM Uranium production in Kazakhstan for the first nine months this year totaled 15,080 tons, up 8 percent year on year.
"The share of (state-owned nuclear company) Kazatomprom in the total amount of uranium in Kazakhstan was 8,601 tons, almost 8 percent higher than the same period last year," the company said.
Kazatomprom's consolidated revenue from January to September amounted to 203.4 billion tenge (1.35 billion U.S. dollars), 23 percent lower year on year, the company said, Xinhua reports.
The drop was primarily due to the transfer of uranium in the last quarter this year, as well as lower spot prices in the second half of 2012, it said.
Net income for the July-September quarter was 25 billion tenge (165.8 million dollars), the company said.
Production of Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC showed a 13-percent increase in beryllium output and a 17-percent increase in tantalum from the same period last year.
Kazatomprom is the national operator for the import and export of uranium, rare metals, nuclear fuel for power plants, special equipment and dual-purpose materials.
