The Kazakh athlete was found to have used prohibited medical drugs. Analyses revealed the presence of a banned substance called erythropoietin.

As indicated in the documents, Alikhan’s doping sample was taken during the competition period. It should be recalled that Alikhan Abuseit competed in the U23 Triathlon Championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan held between May 11-12. The Shymkent-based athlete pocketed silver in the sprint race.

Erythropoietin is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the kidneys. It enhances oxygen delivery to muscles and elevates hemoglobin levels. In the context of athletic performance, it is used to enhance endurance.

It bears to remind that a few months prior to the Olympic Games in Beijing another Kazakhstani athlete, Dmitriy Gaag, was caught using prohibited medical drugs in 2008.
