Kazakh tennis player progresses in Sydney

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan has had a good start at the $495,000 Apia International Tennis tournament that is underway in Sydney, Australia, Kazinform has learnt from Vesti.kz.
In Last 16, the Kazakhstani fought hard to outplay Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in straight sets 6:3, 7:6. Next up for Kukushkin is Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay who stunned Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in the Sydney opener. 7:6, 6:4. It is worth mentioning that Kukushkin is in one draw with defending champion Juan Martin del Potro who also celebrated his first success in Sydney by defeating Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine. Del Potro is back on court after an 11-month break.
