Kazakh senators OK cooperation with Azerbaijan in emergency situations

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Senate, the upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, has endorsed the law "On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on cooperation in the area of civil protection, prevention and liquidation of emergencies" at the plenary session today.

"The agreement was signed in Astana on December 6, 2010. Oil deposits in the Caspian Sea region are of strategic importance both to Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Both countries strive to ensure security in the region, especially at oil recovery facilities located there. In connection with this, the agreement stipulates organization of joint coordinated actions in case of any emergencies either in the waters of the Caspian Sea or on the territory of Kazakhstan or Azerbaijan," said Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Kalmukhanbet Kassymov, introducing the bill. "Ratification of the agreement will enable the parties to exchange experience in the sphere of monitoring and forecast of emergency situations," he added.
