Kazakh Senate ratifies amendment to Montreal Protocol

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Today at the plenary session of the Senate deputies have ratified the amendments to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, adopted in Beijing December 3, 1999.

As noted in the conclusion of the Committee on Agrarian Affairs, Environment and Rural Development, the amendment aims to phase out use of hydro-chloro -fluoro- carbons (HCFCs), which are hydrocarbons used as refrigerants for refueling conditioning and cooling systems in residential, industrial, commercial and transport sectors as well as reagents for foam materials. The amendment bans any import or export of HCFCs (Hydrochlorofluorocarbons) from any country and to any country that is not a signatory to the Montreal Protocol. The Beijing amendment was adopted by more than 190 countries including the states of the EU, Central Asian and Latin America regions, Canada, Russia and the USA.
