Kazakh Senate approves law on transfer of sentenced persons with Vietnam

The Senate of the Kazakh parliament passes the law on the transfer of sentenced persons with Vietnam, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

The agreement provides for legal settlement concerning the transfer of sentenced persons to serve the sentence in their country between the relevant bodies of Kazakhstan and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The transfer of sentenced foreigners to their countries to serve the sentence is one of the components of crime prevention and criminal justice. Presently, Kazakhstan has the similar agreements signed with 23 countries, including Ukraine, China, Türkiye, the UAE. 160 nationals of Kazakhstan have been transferred to our country and 900 more persons have been serving their sentences in the past five years alone, said Senator Yevgeniy Bolgert.

According to him, such agreements aim at boosting bilateral relations and creating a legal framework to implement the principles of social rehabilitation and protection of human rights.

The law implies that each side is obliged to extradite to another party a person, staying on the territory of the requested party, wanted for criminal prosecution or execution of a sentence.
