Kazakh Secretary of State: Historians can't claim the lives of generations in Kazakhstan of 20th c. were meaningless
ASTANA. June 6. KAZINFORM - It is necessary to speak openly about the dramatic history of the twentieth century, and not to indulge in nostalgia for a certain order. How to live in that time millions of our ancestors have experienced themselves, said yesterday Marat Tazhin at the enlarged meeting of the Interagency Working Group for the Study of Natural History of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the Eurasian National University.
"Before us there is a fundamental question: Is the history of generations, the life story of our fathers and grandfathers devoid of any meaningful sense? Of course not, life of past generations was not meaningless. Here, there is a proper historical and ethical side.
In any historical epoch lives of people and the political system are not identical notions. The lives of those generations of Kazakhstan, who lived in the twentieth century, are filled with its high personal meaning. Their joys, victories and accomplishments. And to cross this huge layer of history, amounting to a life of entire generations, with a black paint, would be biased for purely historical reasons, " said in his report the Secretary of State.
As believed by him, the historians in the first place should avoid idealization of the past and talk openly about the dramatic history of the twentieth century, and should not indulge in nostalgia for a certain order: how to live with it millions of our ancestors have their experience. Therefore, to show all the charm of "solving the national question" in a totalitarian state is just the debt of Kazakh historians.
