Kazakh Prime Minister chairs meeting of collegium of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
ASTANA. January 24. KAZINFORM - Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov has chaired an enlarged meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Internal Affairs , the web-site of the Prime Minister reports.
The Minister Kalmukhanbet Kassymov reported on the work done and voiced priority task of the Kazakhstani police.
According to his words, last year the number of serious crimes reduced to 15%, murders - 12%, brigandism - 7%, robberies - 18%.
In his speech, Akhmetov said that one of the priorities of "Kazakhstan-2050" Strategy outlined by the President is the strengthening of the rule of law and maintaining the necessary level of security for our citizens.
For these purposes Government annually increases funding levels for MIA and wages, provides police and Interior Ministry troops with necessary equipment.
Head of the Cabinet focused on issues of crime prevention, improvement the quality of investigation and analysis. In this regard, he instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs to make proposals for the adoption of a new program of crime prevention and Akimats to approve the regional program for the medium term by the end of the first half of 2014.
Special attention was paid to the prevention of juvenile delinquency. More than 60% of juvenile offenders are pupils and grammar-school children.
MIA together with MES and local agencies needs to develop measures to improve the quality of youth liaison service and "school" inspectors work, ordered Serik Akhmetov.
An important issue, in his view, is the improvement of the quality of combined road-patrol police. "Regular street patrolling helps to reduce crime. Road patrol police has a dual objective. It should ensure law and order as well as road safety", said Akhmetov.
In this regard, Ministry of Internal Affairs in conjunction with Ministry of Transport and Communications and regional Akimats have been entrusted to strengthen their efforts to improve traffic conditions, eliminate accident-prone locations, tighten control over the work of public transport and private passenger carriers.
Serik Akhmetov also noted that drugs and psychotropic substances' turnover and distribution pose hazard to health and life of the population. MIA together with local authorities have been instructed to strengthen work in this direction. Moreover, Akhmetov drew attention to the issue of combating extremism and terrorism as well as illegal migration.
"The current task of the police is to immediately respond to any information on preparing crimes or acts of terrorism", said the Head of Government.
