Kazakh President sums up results of his visit to China

"We complete our state visit to China. We have been working on strengthening of our relations for 19 years of our independence.

The first rail transition station Dostyk-Alashankou puts across 15 mln tons of goods. We complete the construction of the second station Khorgos-Almaty. The Chinese goods can be transported to Central Asia through Kazakhstan and to the Persian Gulf through Iran. China is looking forward to opening of "West Europe -West China" road corridor. The international center of cross-border cooperation is under construction in Khorgos. This will be a unique facility.

I believe this state visit has been a breakthrough one in the context of addressing topical issues. The issues of transboundary rivers have been on the agenda for a long time. Finally, we signed an agreement ensuring that the water quality of Ili and Irtysh Rivers would be controlled over by both sides. Another issue that needs to be addressed is equitable water supply. I hope we will resolve this problem within the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Kazakhstan scheduled for June this year.

Thanks to our visit the Kazakh ENRC company was provided with USD 1.5 mln for further development of Sokolov-Sarbai mining production association and USD 400 mln for chromium industry development.

Secondly, there will be joint cooperation projects in the field of nuclear energy. Together with China we work on the issue of complex processing of raw uranium and nuclear fuel supply. As is known, 19 nuclear units will be built in China. Kazakhstan is able to supply about 40% of China's demand for uranium.

I believe, our agreements on establishment of a Kazakh-Chinese supercomputer center in Astana, opening of a Kazakh-Chinese University for studying innovations, programming and introduction of Chinese innovations in Kazakhstan have a great future.

We have signed the agreement on cooperation in non-primary sector. A joint fund of around USD 1 bln is under establishment. This is a very profitable contract. The talks with the Chinese top officials and the results of our visit prove its successfulness. China recognizes Kazakhstan as a reliable neighbor and strategic partner. This is very important for us," the Kazakh President said.

Answering the questions of journalists regarding the traveling by the high-speed train the President said: "We have built capital city Astana for 10 years. Why can't we try to realize such a big project as a high-speed train between Astana and Almaty? I was impressed with traveling by this train. This is a unique project. I believe we are capable of realizing such projects in our country".
