Kazakh President proposes to compile anthology of Turkic world and general almanac
MATY. October 21. KAZINFORM /Aigul Turysbekova/ I call upon all concerned parties to actively participate in the work of the Turkic Academy. The Turkic world has more than 40 nations and nationalities living in the vast territory of the Eurasian space. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said it at the 1st Summit of Turkic-speaking Countries Cooperation Council on Friday in Astana.
According to the President, there are nearly 200 million Turkic language speakers in the world. They have made a special contribution to the history and culture of mankind. "Our glorious ancestors left an indelible mark on the world of art and science. Therefore, we need to do a lot of work on the further rapprochement of our brotherly nations that share common roots."
Nazarbayev noted the necessity to compile an anthology of the greatest works of the Turkic world, to prepare a general almanac. "We need to organize a large-scale campaign for the presentation of outstanding personalities of our people."
The Kazakh leader also made several proposals, such as promoting the heritage of the prominent people of the Turkic world: Al Farabi, Zhussul Balassagun, Mahmud Kashgari, Ahmed Yasawi and other; conducting the international symposium on the prospects of the Turkic world development in Turkestan in 2012; organizing cultural activities in connection with declaring Astana the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2012.
